Was going through some old photos, and came across a couple good car-related ones. The first one is me at age 14, learning how to drive in my uncle’s Jeep Scrambler.

Kinja'd!!!

And the second is my first car, two years later: a 1979 VW Scirocco. It eventually succumbed to rust, but man, what a fun car to drive. It absolutely set the stage for my favorite type of car: small, lithe, and simple. (Sorry for the blurry pic, it’s literally a photo of a Polaroid.)

Kinja'd!!!

I’d just about kill to have either or both of these cars today...

I was literally on Expedition Portal and Google earlier today looking for examples of Scrambler based overland builds. That’s my all time favorite variant of the original Jeep formula. Killer truck!

Can confirm. I had a cj7 from  age 18 to 30. That exact scirocco with a manual was my winter rally car. I’ll have another CJ soon. On the hunt for a Quadratrack with a th400 of all things

That Scrambler must have been relatively new. It still has the original Goodyear Tracker A- T tires. I loved those Scramblers and those tires seemed so cool back in the day.

This was in 19 87, and I think it was an ‘82, maybe ’81. This was my uncle’s weekend toy, so it didn’t get many miles. Could have been the original tires still.

These were both 4 speed manuals. My dad and my uncle both made sure I learned on a stick first, before I ever touched an automatic.

Both black vinyl seats too, come to think of it...

that is awesome - you must be one of about 117 people on the entire planet that learned to drive in a Scrambler

I had a cj7 with the 4 speed for a few months. . It was a 1980 with the 258 6. The creeper gear taught me how to crawl. It was a tractor.

A Jeep should have a v8.

Heh, probably. I drove it up Pike’s Peak once, too. That venn diagram is probably even smaller...

My friend in High School had one, not sure if he learned to drive in it though.

A Jeep should have a v8.

Going to have to disagree with you there. That inline 6 is legendary.
